The Guide Star Catalog. II - Photometric and astrometric models and solutions
The models, algorithms, and procedures used to calibrate the all-sky setof objects in the Guide Star Catalog (GSC) are discussed. The role ofthe GSC in the Hubble Space Telescope program is reviewed. Thephotometric reductions and error analysis are described. Considerationis given to the photometric agreement between the GSC and the Guide StarPhotometric Catalog, the internal consistency of GSC photometry inplate-overlap regions, and the agreement of the GSC with photometry fromother photoelectric surveys. The astrometric reductions and erroranalysis are also examined, including results from experiments in anastrometric test region, the agreement of the GSC with other referencecatalogs, the internal consistency of GSC astrometry in theplate-overlap regions, and the agreement of the GSC with astrometry fromindependent surveys. The photometric and astrometric solutions for theindividual plates are described.
