Improved Spectroscopic Parameters for Transiting Planet Hosts
We report homogeneous spectroscopic determinations of the effectivetemperature, metallicity, and projected rotational velocity for the hoststars of 56 transiting planets. Our analysis is based primarily on thestellar parameter classification (SPC) technique. We investigatesystematic errors by examining subsets of the data with two othermethods that have often been used in previous studies (Spectroscopy MadeEasy (SME) and MOOG). The SPC and SME results, both based on comparisonsbetween synthetic spectra and actual spectra, show strong correlationsbetween T eff, [Fe/H], and log g when solving for all threequantities simultaneously. In contrast the MOOG results, based on a moretraditional curve-of-growth approach, show no such correlations. Tocombat the correlations and improve the accuracy of the temperatures andmetallicities, we repeat the SPC analysis with a constraint on log gbased on the mean stellar density that can be derived from the analysisof the transit light curves. Previous studies that have not takenadvantage of this constraint have been subject to systematic errors inthe stellar masses and radii of up to 20% and 10%, respectively, whichcan be larger than other observational uncertainties, and which alsocause systematic errors in the planetary mass and radius.

Hat-P-28b and Hat-P-29b: Two Sub-Jupiter Mass Transiting Planets
We present the discovery of two transiting exoplanets. HAT-P-28b orbitsa V = 13.03 G3 dwarf star with a period P = 3.2572 days and has a massof 0.63 ± 0.04 M J and a radius of1.21+0.11 - 0.08 R J yielding a meandensity of 0.44 ± 0.09 g cm-3. HAT-P-29b orbits a V =11.90 F8 dwarf star with a period P = 5.7232 days and has a mass of0.78+0.08 - 0.04 M J and a radius of1.11+0.14 - 0.08 R J yielding a meandensity of 0.71 ± 0.18 g cm-3. We discuss theproperties of these planets in the context of other known transitingplanets.
